About the project for green economy
In Georgia there is a limited awareness among decision-makers, economic operators as well as the wider public of the adverse impact of economic activities on environment and climate change. The issue has never seriously entered the Georgian political agenda. There was a need for widening up the debate among state and non-state actors, which would increase the awareness among decision-makers and help businesses to adopt and perhaps get advantage of the changing global economic imperatives.
The Centre has consulted with a wide range of decision-makers and stakeholders, hosted round-tables, expert meetings and conducted interviews with Members of Parliament and as a result, BEC has created a legislative platform on Green Economy in 2010 under the auspices of the Parliamentary Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
Aim of the project is to reach an effective and result-oriented policy framework, support dialogue between the policy makers and civil society on green economy issues and raise awareness about ongoing reforms.
